Frans Saint Germain cannot sit still. So when he and his wife Ria handed over the renowned Salons Saint Germain and catering business to their sons, they not only started a new restaurant, Père et Mère in Diksmuide, but also had a vacation home built on their own estate: Aan de Blankaart. And that name completely lives up to expectations. This well-hidden estate borders seamlessly on the wetlands. Poetic panoramas are guaranteed. What's more, from the swimming pool you can look out over the famous marshes and wet meadows. The estate consists of two parts. On one side is the private residence, next to it is the partially newly built vacation home that seems to have always been there. On the ground floor is a cozy dining room adjacent to the terrace with swimming pool, decorated with nostalgic portraits of Frans' brothers and sisters and a beautiful tapestry by Vera Vermeersch. One floor higher, in the eaves of the roof, a monochrome and therefore soothing loungeawaits, offering a view of the Blankaart. The wild beauty of nature constantly sets the tone here. The perfectly maintained garden not only flows gently into it, but you can also walk straight into it from your vacation spot along the sheep path. Still, it remains to be seen whether you can convince your children to leave this domain. Because there is plenty to do here. Frans and Ria have a bunch of grandkids themselves, so they know exactly what young ones like. Feeding the swans Bel and Bo, playing petanque , digging holes in the sandbox, trying out the trampoline, or chilling by the pool. They can shower afterwards in the caravan, the latest addition. Like we said, this couple can't sit still.
