Right at the top of the iconic Rodeberg, with the Heuvelland at your feet, you will find Huis Octaaf. A holiday home with a difference. Because here, you step back into the 1950s. On August 1, 1950, Octave, Olivier's grandfather, bought this property and finished it in the modern style of the time. It was a place to catch their breath while their bombed-out home in Ypres was being rebuilt. Later, Octave and his wife Paula regularly fled the city and this became their weekend address. Recently, grandson Olivier thoroughly restored the house according to today's environmentally friendly standards and quickly decided to restore it to its former 1950s glory. All the modern comforts are neatly hidden away, catapulting you back to another time. Full of optimism, the war years are over, this is the era of inventions and there is a joie de vivre in the air. The new garden room, which overlooks thesloping backyard, illustrates this wonderful lightheartedness. Olivier and Katleen decorated the house with authentic furniture from that era, complemented by handy retro kitchen utensils from today. It's like stepping into a movie or bathing in nostalgia. If Octave could still come over for coffee, he would undoubtedly nod his approval.
