Ellen and Anthony have been fond of Chimay and its surroundings for more than 10 years. If only because here you can walk for hours, even days, in endless forests without encountering a single soul. So it was written in the stars that one fine day the couple would stumble upon a gem that would strengthen their bond with the region even further. Right next to the church in quiet Rièzes, the listed presbytery had been standing empty for years. The neighborhood children enthusiastically took over the garden, while the building itself, constructed in 1860, was falling into disrepair.

And so the couple took the plunge, rolled up their sleeves for two years, and transformed the humble rectory into La Cure De Rièzes. Anthony demolished what could not be saved, turned the wasteland back into a garden, and Ellen took care of the interior design. This historic place was thus restored to its former glory, with all the modern comforts. Thanks to well-chosen items, from a wood-burning stove to an antique mirror and nature prints to blissfully thick plaids, it seems as if time has stood still. And when you look outside, you really have to pinch yourself. Because the old school, the cemetery, and the church complete this heritage picture. Finished your walk? Even then, there are plenty of options in the neighborhood. You can visit the Brewery or the Castle of Chimay and, in winter, even venture onto the local cross-country ski trail and warm up afterwards in the sauna.
