Sometimes one thing leads to another. So when Kathy and Pieterjan were looking for more space for their gardening business, they ended up at their neighbor's house, affectionately known to the family as Grandpa Ben. After all, his renovations had been dragging on for years and there wasn't much progress. Grandpa Ben sold up, so there was plenty of room for a new shed, but what about the house with the large garden at the front of the plot? They turned it into a vacation home, named after its former owner. It required a very thorough renovation, carried out by the couple themselves. It was a long-term project. After all, the house was virtually a shell, with only a hamman on the upper floor. So all the rooms were redesigned, the beams were sandblasted, and the chicken coop was converted into a suite.

On the ground floor, bright rooms overlooking the garden and the same clay plaster throughout, one floor up poplar wood, pine doors, and numerous well-designed nooks and crannies. Of course, there is also a garden that appeals to the imagination. Elegant borders around the terrace, a lounge area with a petanque court, and a sophisticated mix of plants that provide flowers all year round. And all this between Bruges and Knokke-Heist, close to the border and a stone's throw from those atmospheric twins: the Leopold and Schipdonk canals.
