Coming home to Sri Lanka. It's not always easy, unless you end up at Raf and Harold's Villa Don Hendrick. Because in 2010, they went before you. That's when the couple stumbled upon this hidden but neglected gem. A lush tropical garden, containing not only centuries-old palm trees, but also three bungalows and a stately colonial villa. Built in the first half of the last century, it was once even the first stone house in the region. It promptly inspired the gentlemen to name the place after the builder of the time: Don Hendrick Wickramarathne. In fact, the bungalows were named after his sons.

In this historic and idyllic spot, the couple created an Adults Only Boutique Bed & Breakfast. Suitable for couples, solo travelers and all those who like to work remote in style. You stay in your own private bungalow surrounded by tropical greenery, but you can also relax in the colonial villa. It has been restored to its former glory and since then has been packed with antique furniture that matches perfectly. Chill out in the library, enjoy one of the terraces or in the cosy lounge. And since both the villa and the bungalows were built in the local ingenious way, there is constant ventilation and you do not even need air conditioning. Each bungalow also has its own terrace.

Cooking can be done in the large outdoor kitchen, but equally you can have takeaway delivered here or do some work. Cooling down you'll find the pool surrounded by palm trees and loungers. And at The Massage Pavillion, the last vestige of stress is expertly massaged away. Exploring the rest of the region or the country?
