About this place
Some things are written in the stars. That Mieke and Armand, two architects with a passion for rock climbing, would meet on the rocks, for example. And that, many years later, they would eventually stumble upon a dilapidated gem leaning against a hillside. In Villa Michaux, named after the architect who designed this monumental house, all their passions come together. This modernist gem was built in 1937 and stood lonely and neglected until the couple took pity on it. They spoke to three generations of previous residents, studied the original design, and then cautiously set to work. The aim was to restore the original elements and the accompanying atmosphere. They succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. With its four floors, the villa may look imposing, but it remains a human-scale home. The focus is on togetherness and outdoor living. Almost every room has its own outdoor space, large windows frame the natural surroundings, and in the evening you can enjoy the view and an aperitif on the huge roof terrace, thanks to the outdoor kitchen and bar. Inside, the couple found many art deco elements, a magnificent wooden staircase that still connects all floors, and a piano with the scores of the former occupant, composer Franklin Gyselinck. The biodiverse garden has several terraces and, thanks to its location on the southern flank of the Meuse Valley, even boasts a sunny microclimate. In short, it has many assets.
