About this place
Years ago, architect Bart Lens discovered Nieuwpoort-Stad. He bought a fisherman's cottage there, which he renovated, and has been spending his weekends there ever since. With Vis à Vis, he repeated that feat. True to his nature, the architect puzzled over materials and space to breathe new life into the small city farm of yesteryear. From the outside, you would hardly notice anything. The cottage is still bathed in the Flemish neo-Renaissance style that characterized the reconstruction in the 1920s. Once inside, you step into another world. The wooden interior is the remarkable result of a successful collaboration with two artists and their Japanese teacher. The many wooden details and the shiny varnish on the floor and paneling give the house not only a Japanese look, but also a slightly nautical feel. A unique place with character. The floor-to-ceiling windows also allow you to enjoy the enclosed terrace to the fullest.
