Le Bassin
Visserskaai 1, 8400 Oostende, BelgiëFrom €99/night
About this place
Standing still is going backwards. They know that in Ostend too, so the Vanhaecke family renovated not only their bar and restaurant, but also many of the rooms at Le Bassin. Some have a classic look, others have an Ibiza vibe, and the newest ones are bathed in the same bright, Scandinavian style as the rest of the hotel. The hotel also has two apartments. And all this right on the Visserskaai and close to the Vistrap. Still the beating heart of Ostend. Here you can see the shrimp boats coming and going and hop on the ferry to the Oosteroever yourself. This makes sense, because chef Tom Vanhaecke is a North Sea chef and therefore works mainly with North Sea fish. This results in fantastic shrimp croquettes, for example, which can be combined with one of the many artisanal 'Ostènsche' beers featured on the menu. An unpretentious cuisine, in other words. His daughter Zoé, sommelier, zythologist, and cheese master, runs the bar and pairs unusual wines and lesser-known beers with refined cheeses from Van Tricht and charcuterie from De Laet & Vanhaver and Dierendonck. And more good news? You can stay as long as you like because you don't have to drive home.
